We Are All Conspiracy Theorists Now

In order to support President Trump you have to believe that the NYT, Wapo, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, the FBI, the CIA, the leader of the House of Representatives, the chairmen of the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees, twitter, facebook, google, former President and VP, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, are all cooperating in an attempt to overthrow the government of the United States. And what’s really wild is that is actually what is happening.

The Horrifying Debate

The abuse and lies that President Trump has endured for four years have finally taken their toll. He is not super human after all. I pray for his healing.

Everything Old is New Again

It would seem that liberalism is not a new phenomenon. Here are two quotes from the book I’m reading currently, The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, published in 1869, which sound like the Democratic convention:

“I can but thank you,” he said, in a tone too respectful to be sincere, “for your kindness in letting me speak, for I have often noticed that our Liberals never allow other people to have an opinion of their own, and immediately answer their opponents with abuse, if they do not have recourse to arguments of a still more unpleasant nature.”

“My Russian liberal goes so far as to reject Russia; that is, he hates and strikes his own mother. Every misfortune and mishap of the mother-country fills him with mirth, and even with ecstasy. He hates the national customs, Russian history, and everything. If he has a justification, it is that he does not know what he is doing, and believes that his hatred of Russia is the grandest and most profitable kind of liberalism.”

Free Speech

When I was young I was very frustrated by the extremely narrow boundaries around allowable points of view in the media. The extreme restrictions on what could be said on the air or in the newspapers and magazines was disheartening. At the time I was mad because my radical left-wing views were so completely unrepresented, but it was equally true of right-wing opinions.

Today we are barraged from every direction by every conceivable point of view. Although it is certainly true that conservative opinion is routinely suppressed by Google and Facebook and Twitter and YouTube, anyone wishing to know what the right is thinking does not lack for sources. There is more conservative opinion available from more outlets than any human being could possibly absorb.

The fact that there is an organized attempt to censor the right and promote the left only serves to make the left look crazier and the right more rational, since the worst of right is less visible than the worst of the left. In any case the amount of free speech that is available now is orders of magnitude greater than it was forty or fifty years ago. The real problem is that it is being used primarily to magnify conflict and division in an effort to amass clicks and likes, the currency of the information age.

No News is Good News. Not.

The two most important significant stories of the day:

The Trump administration has, for all practical purposes, declared war on the Chinese Communist Party via speeches from Secretary of State Pompeo and FBI Director Wray.

President Trump has dismantled and restructured the entire prescription drug industry thereby radically lowering the cost of prescription drugs.

You will not find either of these stories covered by the media, not even Fox.

Life is But a Dream

I was having one of those dreams I have sometimes where I’m trying to do something and am being continually frustrated. Some construction workers had taken my pickup by mistake and I was trying to get it back but one thing after another kept me from succeeding. At one point I thought this is just like one of those frustrating dreams I have sometimes. Could this be a dream? Then I looked around at how real everything was and realized, no, no way this could be a dream.

Cue the Silent Majority

The Democratic Party and BLM/Antifa are like Sinn Fein and the IRA. The political arm and the militant violent arm. BLM and Antifa are the militia of the Democratic Party They are very organized, funded by Hollywood, major corporations, and wealthy donors to foment a race war with the cooperation of the media. The goal is to get rid of President Trump, so we can all go back to business as usual, especially business with China.

Black Lives Matter

Facts don’t matter. I have finally come around to accepting this as a fact of life. Activists, politicians, professors, actors, even news anchors throw around phrases like “black genocide”, “white privilege”, “Silence is violence”, or conversely, “speech is violence”, and no facts are required. If a strong feeling is invoked by shouting the phrase then it is legitimate, and anyone who responds with facts is a racist and a fascist.

So I was not surprised to see a Rasmussen poll that says that over 60% of the public approve of black lives matter. I can just imagine the phone call. Citizen picks up the phone. “Do you approve of black lives matter?” Citizen thinks about his job, his family, his reputation, his vulnerable business. “Uh, why yes, of course I do.”

The New Normal

Because of the pandemic a major restructuring of the economy is going to take place. Much of the change was on track to happen anyway but it has been accelerated. Chipotle and Red Robin and Pier One have already announced that they are going out of business. Many other restaurant chains will follow. So will the movie theater chains. So will many department store chains. So will many other businesses. And they are not coming back. And that’s OK, but there are going to be a lot of unemployed people.

One possible solution is universal basic income. If everyone got $2,000 a month, a person could throw in with one or two other people and get by just fine, and if you want more then develop a good or service that people will pay for.

Another possible solution is a massive public works infrastructure rebuilding project. Put a few million people to work building roads, bridges, airports, public buildings, internet networks, and anything else that would improve life for everybody.

We could do both. Both would require the government to create huge amounts of money out of thin air. Would this be a problem? I have a degree in economics, and I have no idea, but it seems to me that the only potential problem would be runaway inflation, and I don’t see that happening. Stuff is getting done, people are getting paid. It’s not a case of more and more money chasing fewer and fewer goods and services, thereby causing inflation.

So what’s the problem? The only problem I see is that our political class is so corrupt that they will never be able to implement anything that would actually work and help people.

Sympathy for the Mad

One must have sympathy for those poor souls trapped in the imaginary nightmare world where:

The climate is going to kill us all.

There is a monster in the White House who is an existential threat to democracy, the United States, and the world.

People who cut off body parts and ruin their health by injecting powerful hormones are perfectly sane and should be applauded for their courage.

Words are violence.

Defenceless American women are oppressed and raped by the patriarchy.

All white people are racists.

America is an evil nation that commits murder and theft around the world.
